Fletcher Class Protocol

THE FOLLOWING CLASS PROTOCOL is observed in all Fletcher Seminars, Courses, Intensives and 6-month Programs. The purpose of this protocol is simply to create the best possible environment for learning the Fletcher Work™ so that you will receive the greatest benefit from your Fletcher studies.

  1. PLEASE WEAR FORM FITTING BLACK CLOTHING such as a leotard, unitard or close fitting t-shirt. This will assist the teacher to see your body lines. Leggings and tights should be form-fitting from the waist down to the ankle. Please no jazz or yoga pants, bare midriffs, thongs, stripes, patterns or obvious logos. Some studios are very cool and we may not be moving at all times. It is recommended to bring a form fitting sweater, shirt, or another layer.

  2. WE WORK IN BARE FEET. Please do not wear shoes or socks into the movement space.

  3. PLEASE WEAR YOUR HAIR AWAY FROM THE FACE AND UP OFF OF THE NECK. Attention to the positions of the cervical spine are part of the work. Also, bun and ponytails may get in the way of the work on the equipment and may need to be rearranged.

  4. PLEASE BE AWARE OF OTHERS WHO HAVE ALLERGIES. Your classmates will appreciate the use of deodorants, however some students are sensitive to strong perfumes and essential oils, so we ask that you consider this when preparing for class.

  5. PLEASE, FOR SAFETY, KEEP JEWELRY TO A MINIMUM.

  6. PLEASE, FOR SAFETY, KEEP POSSESSIONS OFF THE FLOOR AND EQUIPMENT SPACE. This includes water bottles, notebooks, cell phones, etc. One exception to this rule is during The Ron Fletcher Program of Study™ events when notes are permitted during lecture and review sessions.

  7. PLEASE TURN OFF CELL PHONES AND PAGERS FOR THE COURTESY OF OTHERS. You may check messages during the breaks. In rare situations, we do allow those with family constraints to keep the phone in the room and ask that they leave to take the call.

  8. PLEASE DO NOT USE RECORDING DEVICES OF ANY KIND, including, but not limited to, cameras, video recorders, cell phones, tape recorders, etc. Please do not ask to take photographs unless invited to do so. There is also no observation of the class or seminar without permission.

  9. PLEASE BE ON TIME. This is a courtesy to the teacher and the other students. It is a good plan to be dressed and ready at least 10 minutes before class begins. If an unforeseen circumstance causes delay and you arrive late, please wait outside and then join class at the first break. If you need to leave class for personal reasons, please leave with discretion for the sake of your fellow students and teacher.

  10. PLEASE DO NOT FIDGET. Extraneous movement is distracting to the teacher and other students.

  11. PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION IN CLASS. Please do not talk in class while the teacher is presenting. It can be distracting to others. If you have a question, please ask at the appropriate moment. If the question is not relevant to the situation, the teacher may choose to address this with you during the break. You may also choose to wait to ask questions from the assistant during the break.

  12. PLEASE DO NOT ASSIST. There are assistants who are trained to do this and have been specifically asked to do so.

Thank you for reviewing the Fletcher Class Protocol. The above list comes from student suggestions and questions, and is a common protocol for movement practices. We hope that this helps prepare you for a new experience with a minimum of stress and inconvenience. We are also fortunate to have a master teacher with a commitment to excellence. Our courtesy and consideration will enhance the entire learning and teaching experience for all involved. Thank you for complying.
